Grace's Big Day

Grace's big day has come and gone.  With the big first birthday bash under our belt, I feel like I can finally begin to breathe deeply again. Who'd have thought it could be that stressful planning a one year old's birthday party?

The weekend was super busy and was spent frantically tying up loose ends and remedying any oversights.  There were several times this weekend when I regretted planning such a large get together, mostly due to the to-do list that wouldn't end and complete exhaustion.  And there were even more moments when I wished I had the option of doing one thing or the other.  Plan a party, or be a mom; not both, just one.  Wishful thinking, right?! Ryan was a big help, but when it came to goody bags, loading the car, or organizing decorations, a toddler free environment may have been nice.  But, no such luck and we made it through.  :)

Regrets?  Not really.  The process was exhausting but it was well worth the end result.  The party was great and I think everyone had a great time!  It was great getting to see everyone and Grace made out like a bandit.  Needless to say, we're set on the toy front and her fall wardrobe if off to a heck of a start!  But there was one thing I wished could have been different; I would have loved to have been able to play with Grace a bit more!!  Grace allegedly enjoyed the playground and the spray park while I was making sure her party guests were all happy.   Grace and I already have a "Mommy and Me" play date scheduled at the park later this week!

It is still hard to believe that Grace is a year old.  She is changing every day and learning new things at a rapid pace!  I find myself longing for the infant days, where Grace would sit patiently in her swing or sit still for a moment while I fixed lunch.  This little lady is unstoppable and wants to get her hands on everything!  For those who have or have had toddlers, you know the feeling.  You can never let your guard down and need to be constantly on your toes.  At the end of the day, when Grace is tucked in her crib and sleeping peacefully, I realize I wouldn't have it any other way.

  1. It sure was a wonderful party Rachel...It does stretch you all different directions when throwing a get-together, but you and Toby did a great job. It's terrific you're planning a mommy and me day with Grace, just relax and enjoy your time together. Relaxing is easier said than done with a toddler, but I'm sure Grace, and you, will have a Blast !!!!
